Maserati Mistral, a car for the French Riviera

Maserati Mistral, a car for the French Riviera

Maserati Mistral, probably the most beautiful car made by the brand

Mistral is a strong, cold, north-western wind that blows from southern France into the Gulf of Lion in the northern Mediterranean. It is usually accompanied by clear, fresh weather, and it plays an important role in creating the climate of Provence and Côte d'Azur in France. The mistral takes place each time there is an anticyclone, or area of high pressure, in the Bay of Biscay, and an area of low pressure around the Gulf of Genoa. But we are not here to talk about winds are we?

Alfa Romeo holds the world title of most wins than any other marque in the world

Alfa Romeo holds the world title of most wins than any other marque in the world

Alfa Romeo, half French half Italian origin

Funny enough, The Italian Alfa Romeo story started with French blood. Società Anonima Italiana Darracq (SAID) was founded in Naples in 1906 between Monsieur Darracq and some Italian investors. Alexandre Darracq was a successful French inventor who was producing more than 10% of all automobiles sold in France by year 1904. At that time, he sold a substantial part of his shares to some UK investors in London and he kept investing in different things for a living. So the French heart of the brand was replaced by the UK.

BMW M1 a racing car to compete

It was in the late 70s when BMW and Lamborghini started to talk about producing a car together. Lamborghini was not having the best of their times financially. The oil crisis made it hard for performance car sales and Lambo had to file for bankruptcy in 1978. An Italian court was ordered to find a buyer for the firm and even though the Italian brand got better days afterwards with the Swiss Mimran family (mainly improving big time the Countach model), with the BMW M1 it was a different story.

Jaguar XJ13, the never raced car

Jaguar XJ13, the never raced car

Classic Jaguar XJ13: How to build a racing car and then never race it

There was only 1 car ever produced and sadly has never officially raced, Jaguar XJ13. It was in the 60’s when Jaguar designers did a great job trying to create a sport car that could compete in Le Mans and certainly Jaguar XJ13 is a beautiful car as you can see int he above picture. The engine was exceptional too in terms of engineering for the mid 60’s (5 litre DOHC), so what could go wrong ! We think Jaguar management screw up a project of a great car though.

Honda S800, Japanese engineering overtaking Occident

Honda is not that well known for classic cars. Honda developments and work has been massively used in motorcycle racing. Even these days if you think of Honda motorsports you might think mainly of bikes not cars (even though they are in Formula 1). Honda has always used the Japanese technology and has created amazing bike and engines. One of the fastest road cars for them is the Honda NSX or the S2000, but where does everything start?? Honda, in the 60’s created a machine to dream of.

Porsche 964, a machine of gods

Porsche 964, the father of the Porsche 993

It was in early 1986 when Benjamin Dimson (a guru of design who has worked for almost all German car manufacturers: Audi, Porsche and nowadays with Mercedes Benz in the US) got the job to evolve the iconic 911 into the next level. He transformed the classic Carrera into something new, which is difficult to explain. According to Wikipedia 85% of the car is new compared to the Carrera 3.2 predecessor, so here comes the story.
