Goodwood Estate home of fine classic car races

Goodwood glory years for motor racing (1948-1966)

Goodwood estate has a very long history. You can read a lot about them on their website. In there, it is mentioned it was Frederick, 9th Duke of Richmond, Lennox, Gordon and Aubigny (1904 - 1989) who created the racing track. He was a good fan of cars and planes, he served in World War II in the Royal Air Force and when he was back, he turned the wartime Westhampnett airfield into the Goodwood Motor Circuit in 1948.

When Ford tried to buy Ferrari and ended up creating the Ford GT40

When Ford tried to buy Ferrari and ended up creating the Ford GT40

The story of how Ford GT40 was created

In the 60s, Ferrari Spa was a pretty successful builder of racing cars. It was the brand to be beaten (it still is in some areas these days), the place to be, the good-looking girl everybody wants to flirt with. It was the time of the mighty and exclusive Ferrari 250 GTO or the amazingly hot Ferrari 330 (pictured below) as examples. During 1963, Ferrari employed 450 people and was able to build around 600 cars a year (that’s not even 2 per day).

Who won the first Carrera Panamericana in 1950

Who won the first Carrera Panamericana in 1950

The first car to win Carrera Panamericana was an Oldsmobile 88

Oldsmobile 88 (1949-1999) was the best selling car of the brand from 1950-1974. It is popularly known as 88 too and this "boring" machine made one of the most epic moves in Americas Racing: She won the first Carrera Panamericana in 1950. Even though the model is one of the candidates to be the first muscle car in history (as it is not clear which car is and seems there are discussions about it), not all the olds 88 can be considered one of them. Here we have an example of another car as the winner of the race.

Last F1 Las Vegas GP - 1982 Caesars Grand Prix

Last F1 Las Vegas GP - 1982 Caesars Grand Prix

Things in life tend to get short lived, but a Formula 1 circuit only hosting two races (1981 - 82) and that same track only hosting four races in total doesn’t seem like a complete success. Taking into account we are talking about the second city in the world that never sleeps (or maybe the only real one), Las Vegas, something did not worked fine as this kind of race looks like the one to follow and gather support and fans. As Rosberg recalls: "Terrible," said the cab driver when I asked him what kind of a year it had been in Las Vegas. "Just terrible, man.

Alfa Romeo holds the world title of most wins than any other marque in the world

Alfa Romeo holds the world title of most wins than any other marque in the world

Alfa Romeo, half French half Italian origin

Funny enough, The Italian Alfa Romeo story started with French blood. Società Anonima Italiana Darracq (SAID) was founded in Naples in 1906 between Monsieur Darracq and some Italian investors. Alexandre Darracq was a successful French inventor who was producing more than 10% of all automobiles sold in France by year 1904. At that time, he sold a substantial part of his shares to some UK investors in London and he kept investing in different things for a living. So the French heart of the brand was replaced by the UK.

Mercedes Benz W196, the most expensive german car ever sold (so far)

There are cars and cars and there are prices and prices, but there are always reasons to buy the most expensive car on earth. Some of them could be subjective but certainly others are more rational.

Jaguar XJ13, the never raced car

Jaguar XJ13, the never raced car

Classic Jaguar XJ13: How to build a racing car and then never race it

There was only 1 car ever produced and sadly has never officially raced, Jaguar XJ13. It was in the 60’s when Jaguar designers did a great job trying to create a sport car that could compete in Le Mans and certainly Jaguar XJ13 is a beautiful car as you can see int he above picture. The engine was exceptional too in terms of engineering for the mid 60’s (5 litre DOHC), so what could go wrong ! We think Jaguar management screw up a project of a great car though.

1966 Le Mans 24hr. When the second one wins the race

1966 Le Mans 24hr. When the second one wins the race

Bruce McLaren won the 24 Heures du Mans in 1966 with his Ford GT finishing second

As you might be aware, we are great fans of Bruce McLaren and also the McLaren brand itself. It really has provided a lot of great moments in motorsports. We particularly like this story, as it is one of the more dramatic finishes of a race in history. Following the Le Mans tradition for racing we think is even more dramatic than the 2016 finish we recently lived between Porsche and Toyota.

Ferrari Testarossa, the car for yuppies

Ferrari Testarossa, the car for yuppies

Ferrari Testarossa, a Formula 1 street car

Il Ferrari Testarossa es una macchina diabolica. She is an icon of design and a bit more. It was presented in 1984 Paris Auto Show as a premier. The set up of this amazing machine is the usual Ferrari one: 12V mid engine rear transmission 2-door coupe. The final design included loads of enhancement details to make the car faster but also adding a good handling feeling for the driver. To make a great street racing car, the car had to get improved in terms of handling stability and cornering ability.

Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, 50th Anniversary

Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, 50th Anniversary

Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, probably the most expensive (and beautiful) Alfa Romeo created

Stradale is the usual name used by Italian automakers for the legal road version of a racing car, this time we are talking about 18 cars to dream of; I think the story starts with enough character so far. The car was labelled as one of the sexiest cars of all time and certainly one of the 60s. Certainly a beautiful classic car and rarely for sale.
